Unfortunately, the only information available to us at the moment is that the absences will hopefully become viewable to you on our website one day. We do not know how soon this will be the case as we fully depend on the school’s IT team to provide us access to the Extranet absences, however they appear to be taking their time. We got confirmation that we would be allowed to display the absences as long as none of the staff’s names were being published without proper password protection a long time ago, however we have not yet received the green light to proceed any further.
As of now, there are two possible options to proceed from this point on:
- We create an account for every single Secondary student which is linked to their school email address. We then somehow manage to make sure the accounts’ passwords get sent to the correct individual.
- We create a page that does not require a login process, but in return does not display the teachers’ names. Instead, the classes’ codes assigned to each course by the school will be assigned to the teacher and displayed whenever a teacher is absent. This will require you to remember or at least look up the code of each of your courses, visible on Microsoft Teams.
Both options seem fine, of course, as either one is better than not being able to view absences at all, though I do believe the first option appears to be more practical since one would not have to remember or look up each of their classes whenever checking the absences. However, the IT team has not yet given us access to the absences, meaning that no actions can be taken and no decisions can be made at all for the time being.
We are sorry for the inconvenience but are sure you understand that the school is not willing to hand out the absences to their students carelessly without a thorough inspection of our intentions, which has not yet been happened. We will update the Absences page as soon as we are allowed to work on this progect any further. You will also be notified about the release of the page through a post on both our News feed and the Committee’s official Instagram account.
